Rocketfish, a subsidiary of Best Buy, unveiled its Rocketboost technology late last year.  Rocketboost enables wireless HD audio streaming between devices via RF, and the company’s current Rocketboost products include several external boxes that enable wireless streaming on existing AV equipment.

Today, Rocketfish passed a device called the Rocketboost Wireless Card through the FCC.  Unlike previous Rocketboost products that worked with most standard AV products, the Rocketboost Wireless Card is designed for devices that are already Rocketboost-enabled.

The Rocketboost Wireless Card plugs into Rocketboost-enabled devices through a bus that appears to be slightly smaller than a mini PCI-E slot.  Once the wireless card is attached, the Rocketboost-enabled device is now ready to stream audio to other Rocketboost receivers.  This could allow a Rocketboost-enabled CD player to wirelessly send audio to Rocketboost-enabled speakers, for example.

To date, we haven’t seen any devices with a connection that supports the Rocketboost Wireless Card, but it appears that Rocketfish plans to license the Rocketboost standard to a wide range of products that use digital audio, such as Blu Ray players, going forward.

We don’t have any word on pricing or availability of the Rocketboost Wireless Card, or new Rocketboost-enabled devices, but today’s FCC filing suggests that we will likely see new Rocketboost products available soon.
