NS20, NS24 netbooks from Foxconn make another appearance on the FCC
We first saw Foxconn’s NS20 and NS24 netbooks last month. Today, these devices made another appearance on the FCC, with the NS20 appearing in red, and the NS24 showing up with an orange paint job.
Foxconn doesn’t reveal many specs for the NS20 or NS24, but we do know both netbooks will have a webcam, multicard reader, 3 USB ports (no HDMI, however), 3G and WiFi.
More interestingly, the NS20 and NS24 will run the Linux-based FoxMC operating system (below). FoxMC provides core media, web browsing and productivity apps, and can be used either as a primary OS or as a fast boot OS that complements Windows XP.
We saw pictures of Foxconn’s FoxOS operating system last month, and we’re not sure exactly what the company plans to do with these various operating systems. We’d suspect that these Linux operating systems can be re-branded, allowing Foxconn’s OEM partners to customize the OS along with Foxconn netbooks.
Foxconn’s SZ900, SZ901 netbooks will be sold with Sylvania branding
Last week, Foxconn passed a Linux-powered netbook called the SZ901P through the FCC. Today, a similar device called the SZ901 made it through the FCC, this time with Sylvania branding and the SYNET51601X model number.
As we previously mentioned, the specs on the SZ901P are quite pedestrian. The most interesting part of the netbook was Foxconn’s custom FoxOS Linux operating system. There’s no word on if the Sylvania version of the SZ901 will feature the FoxOS, however.
Sylvania PCs are sold in the US, so there is a decent chance that the SYNET51601X makes it to the States.
More netbooks from Foxconn pass through the FCC
A couple more netbooks from Foxconn, the NS20 and NS24, passed through the FCC today. Like the SZ901P netbook, which Foxconn passed through the FCC yesterday, these two netbooks run on Foxconn’s Linux-based FoxOS with Windows XP options available as well.
We don’t know much about these netbooks except that they have 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and a CCD webcam. This seems like another stock netbook design from Foxconn that will be rebranded before it reaches the States.
Foxconn’s SZ901P shows-off Linux-based FoxOS operating system
OEM manufacturer Foxconn passed the SZ901P netbook, pictured above, through the FCC today. We don’t know much about the specs of the SZ901P, other than the device has Bluetooth, WiFi, WWAN and a CCD webcam. Overall, the device looks unremarkable.
However, Foxconn did decide to install an interesting Linux-based OS called FoxOS on the SZ901P. The OS has a Mac-like launcher, as well as multimedia, productivity and web browsing applications. You can also install Windows XP on the SZ901P, of course.
If you do see the SZ901P, it will likely be rebranded. There’s no indication what role the FoxOS will play in the company’s OEM efforts, but the OS could be easily customized with alternative branding.
