Silver PAC evolution 5500 – Touchscreen universal remote goodness

image image

There’s a lot to like about the Silver PAC evolution 5500 universal remote.  With a 4.3 inch touch screen, ARM9 processor, 1 GB of Flash and 256 MB of SDRAM, the device is closer to a netbook than a remote.

Running on Windows CE, the evolution 5500 gives you control over everything from your Windows Media Center PC to lighting to AC.  The device can also connect to the Internet via b/g WiFi, so you can view email, check showtimes, or view pictures.

The evolution 5500 will be released in February 2010, but there is no pricing info available yet.  Generally, Silver PAC’s products aren’t cheap and it doesn’t appear that the evolution 5500 will be any exception.

That makes us wonder if it’ll be more valuable to install remote control software and an IR blaster on a netbook, or to buy a remote that costs as much as a netbook.
