Dell Streak available on August 13 from AT&T for $300 with contract

image

We knew the Dell Streak was coming soon, and in a press release today Dell announced that we’ll be able to get our hands on the Android-powered device this Friday, August 13th for $300 with a two year AT&T contract ($550 without).  Presale customers will be able to pick up the Streak a day earlier on August 12th.

The Streak bridges the divide between phones and tablets with a 5” capacitive touch screen display (800 x 480), UMTS/GPRS/EDGE support, WiFi, Bluetooth, front (VGA) and rear (5MP) cameras, 2GB of internal storage and full support for the Android Market.  Unlike the Apple iPad, which only supports 3G data, the Streak can be used as a phone.

It remains to be seen if there is any consumer demand for such a large phone…or, such a small tablet.  And while the Streak’s 1GHz processor should be able to handle most personal and business tasks, the device still relies on the older 1.6 version of Android.  We’ll get a better idea over the weekend what kind of demand we can expect for the Streak.  Until then, check out the video below:

Dell’s 5” Streak Android tablet to be released by the end of July

Dell Streak Pre-Order

We’re still not sure what we’d do with a 5” Android tablet, but the screen shot above confirms that we’ll be able to figure it out soon – by the end of July, in fact.  This screen shot was taken from Dell’s website, and it confirms that the Streak will be released within the next week and a half, although the page has since been taken down.

BGR reports that signing up for the Streak presale comes with a free upgrade to 2nd day shipping and a Plantronics Bluetooth headset for $0.99.  No pricing information on the Streak itself was available, however.

So who’s gonna bite on one of these?

Dell prototype laptop revealed on FCC

imageimage

We don’t have a lot to go on here, but an FCC filing on Friday by Intel appears to have revealed a prototype Dell laptop.  Images of the laptop from test setup photos are above, and you can see Intel’s reference to the device as a ‘prototype’ below.

FCC documents also show that the Dell prototype will rely on an Intel 633ANHMW mini PCIe card for 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity.  Other than that, we don’t know much else about this laptop.

Dell Latitude 2110 netbook with Intel WiMAX makes an appearance on the FCC

imageDell unveiled its Latitude 2110 netbook earlier this month, and today the device showed up on the FCC thanks to a filing by Intel.  FCC photos show the device with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 card, as well as a pretty hefty battery, below.  Other specs for the Latitude 2110 include a 10” screen, Intel Aton N470 processor, up to 10 hours of battery life, and a funky rubberized cover, below.

Pricing for the Latitude 2100 series will start at $419.  Unlike the rest of the Latitude line, which is targeted at business, Dell is targeting the Latitude 2110 at the education market.

Dell Streak coming to O2 in June, to AT&T this summer

Here’s some good news for those of you patiently waiting for the Dell Streak 5, aka Mini 5.  Dell CEO Michael Dell announced yesterday that the Dell Streak 5 will be available next month from European wireless carrier Telefonica O2.  Dell added that the Streak 5 will be making its way to the States ‘later this Summer’ through AT&T.

Interest for the Android-powered Streak appears to be strong, although we’re not quite certain where a 5” MID phone will actually fit into our daily routine.  While the Streak 5 can be used as a phone, the device is a bit too hefty to be pocketable.  On the other hand, the 5” screen on the Streak 5 is too small to replace a PC – we’d prefer an iPad or a netbook instead.

It will be interesting to see how Dell positions the Streak 5.  According to leaked documents posted by Slash Gear, Dell has a number of MIDs/tablets on their roadmap, and we’re eager to see how Dell launches this new lineup of products.

Dell Aero Android smartphone makes its way through the FCC

image

It’s hard to remain interested in the Dell Aero after leaks from Dell last month exposed a host of new, intriguing Android and Windows Phone 7 devices.  But for those of you still interested in the Aero, you’ll be happy to know that the device passed through the FCC today, and seems on schedule for a launch soon.

Dell’s Smoke brings Android to a slim, candybar form factor

image

We’re still recovering from the flurry of Dell phones leaked by Engadget, but we had to take a minute to mention the Smoke, Dell’s Android Froyo candy bar smartphone.  The device features a 2.8” touchscreen, Qualcomm MSM7230 processor, full QWERTY keypad, 5 MP camera and Flash 10 support.  Not bad for a device that measures just 4.72” x 2.35” and 0.41” thin.

While the Smoke may be pigeonholed into the lower-end of the Android market, the device looks great so far, and with a processor running at 800MHz, it’s not that much of a downgrade from its larger, Snapdragon-powered brethren.  The Smoke will also be a great alternative to buyers that love the Palm Pixi form factor, but are afraid to invest in a device whose OS and app store are mired in uncertainty.

Dell’s Lightning Windows Phone 7 device features sliding QWERTY keypad, worldwide GSM/WCDMA and future LTE support

image

Well what do we have here?  Today, Engadget published a few leaks from Dell that expose several new smartphones.  And overall, they look pretty good.

The device pictured above is known as the Dell Lighting.  This Windows Phone 7 device packs a 4.1” WVGA OLED display and full sliding QWERTY keypad into a package only 14.9mm thin.  The Lighting’s spec sheet reveals a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, quadband GSM support, as well as support for WCDMA bands I, II, IV, V and VIII.  Storage comes in the form of a 1GB Flash ROM, 512MB of RAM, and 8GB microSD card.  The device also features a 5MP autofocus camera, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio and…wait for it…Flash support.

Engadget also notes that leaked slides indicate that the Lighting will get a LTE upgrade in Q4 2011.  The current version of the Lightning is scheduled to be released in Q4 of this year.

We’re impressed at the work Dell has done with the Lightning, particularly considering the relatively uninspired design of the Dell Aero.  This is one of the slimmest QWERTY sliders we’ve seen – even with its keypad the Lightning is less than 4mm thicker than the iPhone 3G S.

The Lighting is just the first of several Dell phones leaked to Engadget, and we’ll follow up shortly with the other devices.

New version of Dell’s Mini 5 makes an appearance on the FCC with support for T-Mobile 3G

image

We first spotted the Dell Mini 5, aka Streak 5, on the FCC back in February when the device appeared as the M01M002.  Today, a new version of the device called the M01M002 passed through the FCC.

Both versions of the Mini 5 are quad-band GSM devices.  However, the new version of the Mini 5 supports WCDMA band IV, while the previous version supported bands I, II, V and VIII.  This is good news for T-Mobile customers, since the carrier relies on WCDMA band IV in the United States for 3G data services.

We still don’t have any word on a firm release date, although Engadget is reporting that we can expect the device this Summer.

Dell 7” and 10” tablets in the works, scheduled for launch in late 2010, early 2011

Engadget got their hands on a juicy leak from Dell, yesterday.  Apparently a tipster within Dell reported to Engadget that two new Streak tablets are in the works, one with a 7” screen and the other with a 10” screen.

If you remember, we already saw the 5” version of the Streak, aka Mini 5, on the FCC back in February, so it looks like Dell is quickly rounding out its like of Streak devices.  According to Engadget the 7” Streak will be launched in late 2010, while the 10” version will launch in early 2011.

Dell also got word that the Aero will be released on AT&T in June of this year, while the streak 5 will be launched later this Summer.
