The phone is a quad band GSM device with support for WCDMA bands I, II, V and VIII. This makes the E5 a good candidate for AT&T in the United States, but we haven’t heard any word of the device making its way to the States.

You can by the device in the US from cell phone importers for about $500.

Nokia unveiled their C5 smartphone yesterday, and today the device made an appearance on the FCC. The C5 is the first offering in Nokia’s line of C-Series devices and is targeted towards the economical consumer market.

The C5 is an S60 3rd edition device that sports a 2.2” QVGA display (320×240), 3.2 MP camera (with flash) and FM radio. Although the C5 is targeted at the lower end of the smartphone market, the device still offers a pretty impressive range of features, including GPS mapping, access to Nokia’s Ovi portal, video calling and video sharing.

According to Nokia, the C5 will be released in Q2 2010, and will be available in EMEA and Asia for about $185. There’s no word if the phone will be released in the US, however. The C5 is a quad band GSM device, so it will work in the States. But with support for only WCDMA bands I and VIII, you won’t have 3G with the C5.

Update: The Nokia “Alvin”, will be sold as the X6. The screen on this device is indeed capacitive, and it measures 3.2 inches.

Back in August, Nokia passed the Alvin RM-559 through the FCC. Today, actual pics of the Alvin emerged on the FCC, and they look impressive.

The Alvin is a 7-band device, supporting GSM 850/900/1800/1900, and UMTS 900/1900 and 2100 networks. The Alvin also rocks WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.

The front of the device is consumed by a large touchscreen. The Alvin’s user manual makes reference to glass parts, so I’m assuming that the touchscreen is capacitive, although this is not mentioned specifically in the FCC filing.

More on the Alvin after the jump:

Early reports, like this one from Engadget Mobile, pegged the Alvin’s internal storage at 32GB. That’s good news, because the Alvin seems built for multimedia. The device sports a music and video player, along with an FM radio and TV/Audio out jack (3.5mm!).

Alvin users can download music and podcasts directly from the Nokia Music Store. The device also connects to the Nokia Video Centre, for streaming video. Interestingly, the Alvin includes a RealPlayer client as well, giving users a secondary source of streamed video.

The Alvin has two cameras, one on the front and one on the back, along with an LED flash. The device takes both still pictures and video, and it has rudimentary controls to reduce red eye, control lighting and add effects.

For the corporate crowd, the Alvin offers support for ActiveSync, giving Microsoft Exchange users access to push email. However, users will need to type with an on-screen keyboard.

The device also includes a web browser that supports HTML, XHTML and WML. There is no indication if there is support for Flash, however.

The Alvin’s robust functionality positions the device squarely against the iPhone. In some aspects, the Alvin outdoes the iPhone, take for example the dual cameras with flash, large speakers and FM radio.

However, pics from the user manual suggest that the Alvin’s interface is not quite as intuitive, or pretty, as the iPhone’s. The media player looks a bit rough, and the home screen seems a bit outdated. To be fair though, the only pictures of the Alvin are black and white pages from the user manual, so I’m sure it doesn’t do the device justice.

No coverflow on the Alvin’s Media player

Front and back pics of the Alvin show two cameras, 2 large speakers, a 3.5mm audio/video jack, and micro USB connector. The proximity sensor disables the touchscreen when the phone is near your ear.

Not loving the Alvin’s interface at the moment.

Keyboard looks somewhat spacious. However, I’m not sure if it’s in vertical or horizontal mode. Tying is predictive, but who knows how effective it is. Keypad looks decent enough.

Nice output to TV.
