Minox’s super compact DSC digital camera sneaks through the FCC

image

German digital camera Minox has a knack for making small cameras.  The company’s latest camera, the Minox DSC, passed through the FCC on Monday, weighing in at an impressive 2.4 ounces.

The DSC offers a decent feature set, given its size.  The camera has a 5MP CMOS image sensor, 1.5” LCD display and LED flash – all in a package that measures 3.4” x 1.2” x 0.8”.  The DSC also takes video at up to 640 x 480.  Storage on the DSC is provided by 128MB of NAND Flash, and users can expand the device’s storage with microSD cards up to 16GB.

Minox markets the DSC as a ‘spy camera,’ but even casual photographers can appreciate the benefit of a camera this tiny.  Sure, you won’t want to make large prints out of pictures taken from the DSC, but with 5MPs the device is perfect for taking Facebook photos or YouTube video.

The DSC is currently listed as ‘Not available’ on Minox’s website, but check back here to purchase the device.

Samsung ST5500 – 14.2 megapixel, 7x optical zoom, b/g WiFi goodness

The Samsung ST5500 digital camera made an appearance on the FCC today.  The camera rocks some impressive specs, including a 14.2 megapixel resolution, 7x optical zoom, WiFi, and 3.5 inch LCD touch screen.

The ST5500 has 100 MB of onboard memory and supports microSD memory cards.  The camera can take videos up to 1280×720 at 30 FPS.  ISO on the ST5500 ranges from 80 to 3200, and the camera has a max 1/2000 shutter speed.

The wireless goodness on the ST5500 allows you to send photos and videos via email, or post photos and video to a website like YouTube.  The ST5500 supports 802.11 b/g.

The ST5500 also allows you to output videos/photos via USB or component cables.  The HDMI output does require an additional HDMI adapter, which is annoying.

Still, the ST5500 does pack a ton of features into a pretty compact package.  14.2 MP and HD quality video are key selling points here, and although the camera probably won’t be for sale this Christmas today’s FCC filing suggests that the ST5500 will be available in the Q1 2010 timeframe.
