Lenovo’s U1 hybrid tablet hits the FCC

Lenovo has been teasing the world with its U1 hybrid tablet since CES 2010.  Today, the tablet finally made its way through the FCC thanks to a filing by Lenovo’s OEM partner Compal Electronics.

The U1 consists of a tablet and a netbook-like keyboard dock.  When Lenovo first unveiled the U1, the tablet ran Windows when docked and a custom Skylight Linux OS in tablet mode.  Since then, Lenovo replaced Skylight with Android 2.2 – a wise move since the last thing the world needs right now is another tablet OS.

Lenovo has not yet announced a release date for the U1, but today’s FCC filing is a good sign that the U1 will actually make its way to the hands of consumers.
