Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 appears on Best Buy website, “coming soon” with Android 3.1

Those of you pining for Samsung’s ultra-thin Galaxy Tab 10.1 may not have much longer to wait.  Today, Best Buy launched a product page for the device, complete with a tabbed section for features and specs.  Best Buy will be offering the WiFi-only version of the device in 16 and 32GB flavors.  Best Buy also confirms that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be running Android 3.1 Honeycomb.  However, the retailer does not provide a launch date for the device, instead viewers are left with a “coming soon” placeholder.

It’s encouraging to see that Samsung will not repeat Motorola’s errors in the Android 3.0 tablet space by offering only a 32GB 3G version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1.  And if the device is priced at $500 for 16GB as expected, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be a real competitor to the iPad 2.  However, we are a bit disappointed that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 lacks a microSD card slot, and the device’s 3MP rear facing camera is subpar.  Still, it’s hard not to love the svelte 0.34” form factor of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, even if Samsung did steal its design from Apple.

You can view the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 page at Best Buy here.  Unfortunately, there’s no way to sign up for updates, so you have to check back manually to see when Best Buy releases a launch date for the device.
