ASUS Eee Pad Transformer shows up on Best Buy for $400, gets pulled quickly

Looking forward to ASUS’ Eee Pad Transformer tablet?  Here’s some good news.  The device made a brief appearance on Best Buy’s website today with a $400 price tag, before the page was pulled.  That’s $100 less than the similarly speced 16GB iPad 2, and a great starting point for ASUS’ entrance into the Android tablet market.

The Transformer features Android 3.0 Honeycomb, a 10.1” screen, dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB hard drive, front (1.2MP) and rear (5MP) cameras, and 1080p out.  We also love the device’s carbon fiber-like back.  A docking station for the Transformer will also be available for $150.

It looks like the Transformer is shaping up to be a legitimate competitor to the iPad 2, unlike the Motorola XOOM which suffered from underwhelming sales likely due to a high price point.  There’s still no word on an official release date for the Transformer, but it looks like Best Buy is ready to launch the device soon.

Update:  BGR spotted the Eee Pad Transformer on Amazon.ca for about $410 USD (converted).  Amazon listed the launch date of the Transformer as May 7th, but the product page for the device was pulled soon after.
