Target’s iPad 2 inventory limited, Best Buy and Walmart only selling WiFi versions of device?

We all know the iPad 2 is launching tomorrow, but where should you line up to buy one?  If reports on Twitter are accurate, Target may not be your best option.  An unidentified manager from Target reported that Apple only shipped 2 iPad 2 units, both WiFi-only, to his store for the launch tomorrow.  With over 1,700 stores nationwide, we wouldn’t be surprised if Target’s stock of iPad 2s was somewhat limited.  Hopefully most stores will have significantly more than 2 units, otherwise it won’t make much sense to stop at a Target store tomorrow.

We haven’t heard any reports of iPad 2 inventory levels at Best Buy or Walmart.  However, some sources are reporting that these retailers will only have WiFi-only versions of the device, with 3G versions of the iPad 2 reserved for Apple, Verizon and AT&T retail stores.

While none of these reports are confirmed, we wouldn’t be surprised if they are accurate.  At this point, most retail stores already have an idea of what their iPad 2 inventory will be.  Either way, we’ll find out for sure in just 15 hours.

Update:  It appears that a few Target and Best Buy stores do have 3G versions of the iPad 2.  After calling Target and Best Buy stores in the Bay Area, only one of each reported having 3G models in stock.  For the most part, Target stores only reported inventory of only 5 to 10 units per store.
