White iPhone 4 delays caused by light leakage, confirms Woz

It’s been over seven months since the iPhone 4 was released, and still Apple has provided no word as to when the mythical white version of the device will be released. Apple has not confirmed a reason for the delay of the white iPhone 4, but many analysts have suggested that light leakage problems are to blame.
Today, Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak confirmed that issues with light leakage are indeed responsible for the repeated delays with the white iPhone 4. During an episode of the Engadget Show, Woz explained how he ordered white iPhone 4 parts from a reseller who somehow obtained them from iPhone manufacturer Foxconn. After installing the white iPhone 4 parts, Woz noticed that flash pictures looked like the camera lens was covered with cellophane – a likely byproduct of light leakage. Woz also noticed that the white iPhone 4 exterior caused problems with the device’s proximity sensor.
But fans of the white iPhone 4 received some good news from Woz’s interview, as well. Apple has resolved flash issues with the white iPhone 4, according to Woz, and consumers will be seeing the device soon. Of couse, no specific timeframe for the device was provided.
It’s a relief to finally hear an explanation of the white iPhone 4 delays – although we’re not sure why this had to come from Woz and not Apple itself. It’s also entertaining to hear that Woz ordered black market white iPhone 4 parts from the very teenager who was accused, presumably by Apple, of selling stolen goods.
