Greg Hughes’ Wi-Fi Sync – Wireless iPhone syncing goodness coming to the Cydia app store for $10

Why can’t the iPhone sync over WiFi?  The Zune can do it, so what’s holding Apple up?

Well, Greg Hughes didn’t want to wait for the answer to this question, so he developed his own wireless syncing app, aptly named Wi-Fi Sync.

According to Engadget, Hughes actually tried to get this app distributed through the iTunes app store, but he was of course turned away by Apple.  So, Wi-Fi Sync is now available for jailbroken iPhones on the Cydia store for $10.

Check out the video above to see how Wi-Fi Sync works.  As far as we can tell, the app works seamlessly, although it would be nice if the app allowed you to sync without having to interact with your computer at all.  Currently, you need to initiate the sync on your iPhone, and then approve the sync from your PC – one step too many in our opinion.

Still, that’s a minor gripe.  It’s a shame that Apple didn’t approve Wi-Fi Sync for the iTunes app store, but I suppose this is just another reason why you should go ahead and jailbreak your iPhone.

BUYER BEWARE – Do NOT expect ANY support from Greg Hughes if you encounter any problems with his Wi-Fi Sync software. I purchased the Windows version of Greg’s Wi-Fi Sync software and attempted to install on several PC’s with the same results “application failed to start”. I submitted a friendly trouble ticket on Greg’s support site over a month ago and Greg has made NO attempt to respond. A second trouble ticket also went unanswered as did a request for a refund. PayPal will only assist if the software was purchased via EBay, not Cydia. Jay Freeman of Cydia also didn’t respond to my email requesting assistance. BUYER BEWARE!
