Teardown: Under the hood of Fusion Garage’s JooJoo tablet
The highly anticipated JooJoo tablet hit the FCC today, complete with internal photo goodness. Although the internal FCC pics aren’t great, they do give us a look under the JooJoo’s hood, revealing how this tablet was put together. More pics after the jump:
As usual with portable electronics, much of the JooJoo’s interior is consumed by a battery. The JooJoo uses a lithium-polymer battery that, according to Fusion Garage, will provide up to 5 hours of web surfing. Sadly, the battery is not removable.
The JooJoo hides it’s Intel Atom N270 processor under a heat duct that vents out the top of the device (above). It also appears that the Nvidia Ion GPU is next to the Atom, and vents out of the same duct.
Surprisingly, a 3G modem has made it into this version of the JooJoo. You can see the 3G modem to the left in the picture above. We’re not sure who manufacturers this component, but it is great to know that 3G will be an option on the tablet. WiFi is provided by a Realtek RTL8191SE transceiver on an 802.11 b/g/n WiFi card from AzureWave.
We’re not thrilled about the JooJoo tablet’s paltry 4GB of internal storage, especially since the device’s Nvidia Ion would be great for storage-hogging HD video. As far as we can tell, the JooJoo’s flash storage is pictured above. This pic isn’t encouraging, because the JooJoo’s storage appears to be Flash memory that’s attached to the device’s motherboard rather than an upgradeable SSD drive.
Overall though, we’re excited to see the JooJoo tablet near its release date. While the device can’t be consider an engineering marvel, Fusion Garage did pack a pretty powerful suite of features into a 7.8” x 12.8” x 0.7” package.
