MSI passes AMD Neo-powered netbooks through the FCC

Yesterday, MSI passed two netbooks through the FCC.  The devices, known as the MS-1243 and MS-1241 are based on AMD’s Yukon platform and feature AMD’s Athlon Neo processor.  According to the user manual, the speed of the Neo processor on these netbooks will vary by model.

Weighing in at just over 3 pounds with a 3 cell battery, these netbooks offer a decent selection of features, including a 12.1” LCD with a 1366×768 resolution (an 11.6” screen is available as well), 1.3 MP webcam, 3G WAN, Bluetooth, WiFi, multi card reader, HDMI output and an optional TV tuner.  The MS-1243/1241 will rely on a UMA graphics card however, which means HD playback will probably not be great.  Other specs, like HDD size and memory are configurable, and will vary by model.

MSI does not indicate what OS the MS-1243/1241 will run, although pictures from the user manual show Windows XP at work.  I’d suspect that these netbooks will be running Windows 7 by the time they’re released, however.

Overall, the MS-1243/1241 seems like a solid, but not outstanding entry into the netbook market.  At about 1.26 inches thick, this isn’t the slimmest netbook out there, and for the added heft I’d prefer an improved graphics card.
