Archos 9 priced, torn down

image

We’ve been waiting for the Archos 9 for a few months now.  The original October 22nd release date has passed, but at least today we have some info on pricing.  The Archos 9 is now available for pre-order on Archos’ website for $549.99.  Still, there is no word on when the device will be released.

Additionally, internal pics of the device are now available on the FCC website.  The pics show a Broadcom WiFi module, and Toshiba HDD (although SSD options are available as well).

The Windows 7 tablet looks quite impressive, although the Archos 9’s 1.1 GHz Atom processor seems a bit underpowered.  Archos says the 9 is capable of displaying 1080p video though, so it’ll be interesting to see this device in action.

Finally, a customer paging system that doesn’t suck

image

I hate it when you go to the Cheesecake Factory when there’s an hour long wait, and all they do is give you the little beeping and blinking coaster and tell you to stay within 20 feet of the restaurant.  How does that really help?  It allows you to wait outside in the cold, I suppose, but really you need to stay pretty close to the restaurant for a long, boring hour.

Well, RCL Korea has a better solution with their RCL-R700 GuestCall paging system.  Like conventional pagers, the RCL-R700 will beep when your table is ready.  But unlike others, this device will tell you when you’re going out of the pager range.

It’s a basic feature, but one that allows you to roam around a mall or shopping center, without worrying if you’re being paged.  That can make a long wait at a restaurant much more interesting and productive, and I hope these pagers make they way to the US soon.

Foxconn netbook appears on FCC

image

Foxconn is a Taiwanese OEM manufacturer that makes product for Apple, Sony, Dell, and HP, among others.  Today, the company passed a netbook-looking device through the FCC called the Q360.  FCC filings say the computer will bear “ACCESS” branding.

External photos show a basic-looking device with a small keyboard, 3 USB ports and what appears to be an SD card slot.   There’s no indication what processor this device will sport.

Router and 3G USB stick combo from ZTE passes through FCC

I like this idea from ZTE.  The company is bundling a 3G USB stick with a wireless router, so you can use your 3G data connection at home or on the road.  It’s not a bad idea that makes the most out of those prices $60+ 3G data plans.

This device, which in the FCC filing bears the branding of Australian ISP Big Pond, is known as the MF10, and will hopefully be making it to the states soon.
