Accu-Chek Aviva Combo 670 – wireless blood sugar-testing goodness

 image image

You have to be amazed a how much technology these blood sugar testers put in the hands of civilians.  The Acu-Chek Aviva Combo 670 by Roche, for example, includes a blood sugar tester and insulin delivery system, all in a consumer-friendly, handheld package.

The testing unit (top left) has a color screen and similar directional pad.  You insert your test strip and it determines how much insulin you need.  Then, it communicates with the insulin pump (right) to measure and deliver your insulin.  The two units use Bluetooth to send data back and forth, so the insulin delivery system knows exactly how much insulin to deliver based on your blood test.

Not a bad system at all.  No word on pricing or availability yet, but this seems like a huge time saver and a safer way of delivery insulin in general.

C7889S Tire Pressure Monitoring System – wireless tire management on a keychain

image image

I’ve seen a number of these tire pressure management systems pass through the FCC over the past few months.  This one from Aspirit Enterprise, Inc., lets you monitor the pressure of your tires from a keychain.  Not a bad idea, I suppose, as poorly inflated tires can really kill your gas mileage.

One problem with these, however, is that they actually replace the existing valve on your tire.  That means you have to disassemble your tire, which is no trivial task.

Each one of these runs on its own battery as well, so you know changing those batteries every few years is gonna be a pain.

The Fujitsu Lifebook T4310 slipped through the FCC today, signaling an upcoming release for the Windows 7 tablet.

Previews of the T4310 showed a capacitive touch screen that accepts pen input and multi-touch gestures.  The tablet’s user manual, which was also released through FCC filings, shows an HDMI out, SD card slot, 2.0 MP webcam, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth and optional 3G WWAN.

The T4310 will weigh in a 4.42 lbs, and measures 12.56” x 9.61” x 1.44”.  No word on a release date yet, but it will likely be released near the October 22nd launch of Windows 7.
